Today we focus on highlights of three separate announcements: Global Crossing has a new family of collaboration applications, snom has certified a new phone for use with Microsoft OCS 2007 R2, and CounterPath and Metaswitch Networks have announced a joint development and marketing agreement.
Global Crossing has introduced a family of application called Global Crossing Connect Solutions designed to offer faster, integrated and more seamless collaboration. The first new app, called Global Crossing Connect Desktop, offers users access and management of “Ready-Access” audio conference calls. The new Global Crossing Connect Mobile app can be used on both BlackBerry and Android devices features calendar integration and allows users to host or join scheduled meetings with a single click. Both apps are enabled by the Global Crossing Connect API.
Snom technology AG, an international developer and manufacturer of VoIP phones has certified the snom 300, for interoperability with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2. The phone uses Session Initiation Protocol, and the snom 300 is the company’s most widely deployed IP-based desktop business phone. Commenting on the certification in a statement, Warren Barkley, director of product engineering, Microsoft Lync said, “Microsoft is pleased to have snom join the rapidly-growing set of companies delivering hardware and software products that are compatible with Microsoft Lync 2010.”
CounterPath and Metaswitch Networks have signed a strategic, long-term agreement to move forward with “joint development and marketing of enhanced unified communications capabilities that extend voice, video and messaging services to desktop PCs and mobile devices,” according to the companies’ joint statement. The Metaswitch VoIP application server is used by over 250 service providers, while CounterPath offers softphones and the CounterPath Messaging Convergence Gateway to the mix. The companies will work together to offer product integration targeting solutions that serve both PC and mobile endpoints.
