Apple recently issued a press release touting that OS X Lion is the company's most successful OS launch in its history

OS X Lion, Apple’s latest OS update went on sale last week exclusively via the Mac App Store and suffice it to say, it’s a bona fide hit. Within the first 24 hours, Apple reported that OS X Lion was downloaded by over one million users, making it Apple’s most successful OS launch ever.

The early success of Lion was no doubt fueled by its low pricepoint (only $29) and its availability on the Mac App Store which provides users with a seamless way to install the update without having to go out and purchase a box and use an install disc. Not that doing so was so cumbersome, but users naturally gravitate towards anything that makes their lives easier.

“Lion is off to a great start, user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic,” Phil Schiller stated in a press release. “Lion is a huge step forward, it’s not only packed with innovative features but it’s incredibly easy for users to update their Macs to the best OS we’ve ever made.”

Now as for users with bandwidth limitations that might preclude them from downloading Lion, which checks in at over 3GB, Apple beginning in August will start selling OS X 10.7 via a USB stick on its online store. In the weeks preceding the release of Lion there was some concern that Apple’s desire to make Lion available exclusively via the Mac App Store would prevent some interested users and companies from upgrading. Thankfully, Apple is providing a solution for these folks.
