A new rumor relays that Apple will hold a special iPod media event on September 7th. Unfortunately, Apple's plans to unveil the iPhone 5 are scheduled to take place a few weeks later.
With September fast approaching, all eyes are on Apple as rumors continue to trickle in regarding an expected iPhone 5 announcement. While a number of rumors have hinted at a September launch preceded by an August unveiling, that seems less likely with each passing day. Indeed, more recent reports have suggested that the iPhone 5 will launch sometime in October and that Apple will officially take the wraps off of its next-gen smartphone sometime in September.
Lost in the mix of all this iPhone 5 hullabloo is that September is when Apple typically holds a special media event where it announces a new lineup of iPods. Apple’s annual September event has been a mainstay for years now but with iPod sales – save the iPod Touch – declining year over year, one has to wonder how much umph a dedicated iPod event will have this time around.
Of course, an iPod event coupled with a “one more thing” finale – that being the iPhone 5 – would be tremendous. To that end, the first rumor regarding Apple’s annual September event has finally trickled in.
Kodawarisan is reporting that Apple’s special media event this year will be held on Wednesday, September 7. This is certainly believable given that nearly all of Apple’s previous Fall events have taken place before September 10th.
But if Kodawrisan is to be believed, my hope for a joint iPhone/iPod unveiling isn’t in the stars.
Kodawarisan notes that the early September event will be iPod-only and that a separate iPhone event is scheduled to take place later that month at the earliest with a chance it might even be delayed until early October.
I guess we’ll have to satiate ourselves with new iPod models until then.
