Contrary to a rumor floating around last week, Apple will not be holding a special media event on September 7th.
Late last week a rumor surfaced that Apple was holding a special media event on Wednesday, September 7 where it would presumably announce a new lineup of iPods and hopefully introduce the highly anticipated iPhone 5.
The exact launch window of the iPhone 5 has been the subject of a lot of debate, and while the majority of early rumors pointed to an early September announcement followed by a product launch in late September, subsequent reports have claimed that Apple is pushing back the iPhone 5 launch to October.
Now it’s not out of the ordinary for Apple to announce a product one week and release it a few weeks later. Indeed, that’s why the September 7th date at first glance seemed to make sense – not to mention that it’s exactly around the time Apple has held special media events in years past.
But those looking forward to streaming a Steve Jobs hosted keynote on September 7th can now free up their calendars. Not only will there be no iPhone announcement then, there won’t even be an event. Period.
Jim Dalrymple of The Loop has solid sources at Apple and an exemplary track record when it comes to Apple rumors and he, point blank, says that the September 7th date that’s been floating around isn’t happening.
According to my sources, Apple will not have an event or launch the next iPhone on September 7. It’s hard to say how that specific date was chosen by the sites that started the rumor, other than it fits into the timeline of previous Apple events.
That’s not to say Apple isn’t planning any event in September, but like usual, the only people abreast of Apple’s iPod/IPhone launch plans work at Apple.
