Apparently Sprint will be the only new US carrier that will welcome the iPhone 5 into the ranks this Fall. As highlighted in the photo below, T-Mobile’s Chief Marketing Officer, Cold Brodman, explicitly states that T-Mobile won’t be getting the iPhone 5 this year.
Our business is working very hard to improve performance over the last couple of years andwe’ve had some great success,” said Brodman. New products and value plans are fueling customer response, he added, and Brodman expects the excitement to continue into the holiday season as T-Mobile introduces two new smartphones. Note: “We are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year,” Brodman said.
It’s worth remembering, though, that we’re still not sure what Apple will be calling its next-gen smartphone. The latest rumors point to two new iPhone models, a lower-cost iPhone 4S device accompanied by a larger screened and world-mode iPhone 5 device. That said, Brodman’s statement could be interpreted to mean that T-Mobile won’t be carrying Apple’s flagship iPhone 5 device this year. Or, perhaps it means that no carrier will be getting the iPhone 5 this year in light of reports that the larger screen iPhone has been experiencing design and production delays.
But as with most things, the simplest explanation tends to be the right one. Regardless of what it will actually be called, most people have been referring to Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone as the iPhone 5, and it’s likely that Brodman was doing the same. Consequently, we’ll have to take him at face value and believe that T-Mobile won’t be getting any iPhone model this year.
Adding credence to the report is the simple fact that the noise surrounding Sprint getting the iPhone is substantial and we haven’t heard much of anything regarding T-Mobile and the iPhone over the past few months.
