UPDATED: Companies issue vague statement postponing Nexus, Ice Cream Sandwich debuts
Samsung and Google have cancelled major product unveilings planned for next Tuesday – the Samsung Nexus Prime phone and Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system – and while the companies are not being clear as to why, it would appear related to the death of Steve Jobs. (See update below.)
At least by my reading of this statement from the companies to the blog Pocket-lint:
Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.
That’s either the most intentionally obtuse statement ever written or it means they don’t want to make their big product announcement so soon after the death of Jobs.
Now we can be generous and suggest that the postponement is out of respect for Jobs’ passing.
Or we can be more realistic and speculate that the companies were concerned about there being so much media and public attention focused on Jobs. There has been no date announced for a memorial service for Jobs.
And, of course, there’s the possibility that the delay has nothing whatsoever to do Jobs.
The much-anticipated unveilings had been scheduled for Oct. 11 at CTIA Fall in San Diego.

In an updated statement, the companies confirmed they were making the move out of respect for Jobs.
“We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing,” the companies said.)
