Web site collecting examples of stupidity at its best; feel free to play
Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo is conducting a potentially amusing and/or horrifying experiment this morning by asking readers to convey to him the stupidest thing they’ve ever done. He’ll publish the best later, using only initials to protect the stupid.
He’s not looking for deadly or tragic stupid, but the more mundane yet still mystifying kind, such as his example from his teen years of lighting a match at a gas pump and living to tell the story. I look forward to reading what people are willing to spill.
I’ve been trying to think of a good one to submit, but my brushes with stupid, while plentiful, seem far too common to be interesting. Here’s a small work-related one, though:
I was an editor at a newspaper here in Massachusetts maybe 20-25 years ago and wrote a headline about an upcoming gathering of the state’s most famous political family: “Kennedy klan to …” A proofreader (yes, I’m that old) saved me the humiliation of that gem getting out the door.
And here’s another small one from my private life that I shared here back in July.
