Apple last week implemented a few changes to its board when it announced that long time board member Arther D. Levinson would become Chairman of the Board, a position previously held by Steve Jobs.
Levinson, who previously worked as the CEO of the biotech firm Genentech, has been an Apple board member since 2005 where he’s served on three board committees – audit and finance, nominating and corporate governance, and compensation. Those who read Steve Jobs’ biography might recognize Levinson as the board member who, for months, pleaded with Jobs to create an app store for the iPhone.
In a press release on the matter, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “Art has made enormous contributions to Apple since he joined the board in 2000. He has been our longest serving co-lead director, and his insight and leadership are incredibly valuable to Apple, our employees and our shareholders.”
In other board news, Apple also welcomed a new board member into the fold – Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger.
“Bob and I have gotten to know one another very well over the past few years and on behalf of the entire board, we think he is going to make an extraordinary addition to our already very strong board,” Tim Cook said in the company press release. “His strategic vision for Disney is based on three fundamentals: generating the best creative content possible, fostering innovation and utilizing the latest technology, and expanding into new markets around the world which makes him a great fit for Apple.”
