This juicy rumor comes courtesy of Jason Horwitz ofiLounge which typically has a solid track record with respect to Apple rumors.
This Summer, the web was filled to the brim with alleged next-gen iPhone schematics and case moldings. These case moldings were reportedly based upon a stolen/missing iPhone prototype and suggested that Apple was planning to release a teardrop style iPhone with a thinner and longer profile.
Now according to Horwitz’s source, which he claims is his most reliable, the iPhone 5, while featuring a larger screen and longer profile, will not be a tapered design as the initial case moldings alluded to. I, for one, think this is a smart move as a significantly tapered design has the potential to create some frustrating ergonomic issues.
Likely to be released this upcoming Summer, iLounge claims that the iPhone 5 will may feature an aluminum casing and, as expected, will support LTE. Notably, the iPhone 5 battery will reportedly be powerful and efficient enough to support LTE without the accompanying battery drain that plagues other devices.
Lastly, Apple also appears to be working on some other product revisions in 2012.
The iPad 3, for example, will reportedly be a tad thicker – .77 mm – than the iPad 2 in “order to accommodate the twin light bar system needed for its higher-resolution display.” What’s more, the report notes, Apple will release a completely redesigned MacBook Pro in 2012 with a thinner form factor.
