It’s about that time, folks. With the iPad 3 launch likely set for late March or early April, an influx of rumors and leaked photos are primed to make an appearance. That said, an image spotted on a Korean message board purports to show an iPad 3 Retina Display juxtaposed against an iPad 2 screen.
In the photo below, the iPad 3 screen is on the bottom.
While the two screens, by and large, look the same, the purported iPad 3 screen has 3 connected cable attachments which link up to the circuit board.
To this end, Mac Rumors notes:
The claimed iPad 3 photo shows 3 wide ribbon cables that might be used for data. The iPad 3 is expected to carry a high resolution screen of 2048×1536 which is four times the number of pixels of the current iPad 2, so the need for additional data bandwidth would be understandable.
As for other iPad 3 news, it’s been largely quiet on the rumor front, save for a report last week claiming that Apple was working hard to launch the iPad 3 on February 24, Steve Jobs’ birthday.
While potentially exciting for eager iPad 3 owners, moving up production by a full month is challenging to say the least and requires the coordinated cooperation of many component suppliers. That being the case, I imagine the iPad 3 won’t see the light of day until April, or late March at the absolute earliest.
