Shortly after assuming the CEO position at Apple, Tim Cook wasted no time in instituting a few changes. The first noteworthy change occurred in early September when Cook announced a charitable matching program for Apple employees.
Under the new program, which Cook announced via email, Cook said that Apple will match charitable donations from Apple employees up to $10,000 per year.
The email read in part:
Starting September 15, when you give money to a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Apple will match your gift dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 annually. This program will be for full-time employees in the US at first, and we’ll expand it to other parts of the world over time.
Now a few months later, the program, as promised has expanded to include part time US employees as well. The update comes courtesy of a tweet from the Apple Retail Workers Union.
Back in November, AppleInsider learned that Apple employees had, in two months time, donated $1.3 million to various non-profit charities. Coupled with Apple’s matching program, $2.6 million was donated as part of Apple’s new program.
