Slashdot poll asks readers about current usage
There’s lots of talk about us being in a post-PC world – yesterday, for example, from Ray Ozzie – so I found interesting this current poll on Slashdot that asks: “My PC accounts for (–)% of my computing time?”
As of this morning, 6,434 Slashdot readers had weighed in, with this picture (and the text below it) showing the results:
Since the picture may be difficult to read, especially for those living in a post-PC world, that’s:
- 4% saying 0 to 20%
- 5% saying 20% to 40%
- 8% saying 40% to 60%
- 18% saying 60% to 80%
- 57% saying 80% to 100%
This being a Slashdot poll, there were options for the outliers: 3% said they don’t own a PC and 2% indicated they use theirs as a footstool.
This is an unscientific survey of self-selected participants, of course. But if taken at face value, it shows the vast majority of as geeky a crowd as you’re likely to find still does most of its computing on a PC.
