After walking into a plane of glass outside of an Apple retail store, an 83 year old woman is suing Apple for $1 million

In yet another example of the exceedingly litigious society we now find ourselves in, an 83 year old woman named Evelyn Paswall from Queens is suing Apple for $1,000,000 dollars for an injury she sustained at an Apple retail store in Long Island.

Now you might be wondering – Did she slip and fall and hurt her hip? Did she fall down the stairs?

Not quite.

As it turns out, she’s suing Apple because she walked into a plane of glass that surrounds the Long Island Apple Store. In doing so, she claims to have broken her nose and is now suing Apple for a cool million.

Her suit claims, in part, that Apple was negligent “in allowing a clear, see-through glass wall and/or door to exist without proper warning.”

In a statement on the matter, Paswall’s attorney articulated, “Apple wants to be cool and modern and have the type of architecture that would appeal to the tech crowd, but on the other hand, they have to appreciate the danger that this high-tech modern architecture poses to some people.”

Yes, because the tech crowd can’t get enough of those glass windows!

To assert that glass-based modern architecture poses a danger to some people borders on the absurd.

What’s ultimately troublesome about this story is that people are increasingly refusing to take resopnsibility for their own actions, and even if we assume that Apple should place warning stickers on its glass store windows, a million dollars is clearly excessive.

And at the risk of sounding insensitive, how fast was Ms. Paswall (who again is 83) walking that she broke her nose on the glass upon impact? And having walked into a few glass and screen doors myself in my day, pardon me if I’m a little suspicious.

Following the accident, the Apple Store in question put up warning stickers on the glass.
