As you may recall, the iPhone 4 antenna design caused a firestorm of controversy back in the Summer of 2010 following reports that holding the phone in certain spots resulted in significantly poorer reception.
Responding swiftly to what was quickly turning into a public backlash, Steve Jobs called a press conference wherein he pointed out that the data Apple and AT&T had regarding dropped calls and the like weren’t sufficiently high enough to warrant calling this a significant issue. Indeed, return rates and customer complaints for the iPhone 4 were much lower than they were for the iPhone 3GS.
Nevertheless, Jobs announced that anyone who had purchased an iPhone 4 would be eligible for a free Apple bumper.
But seeing as how we live in a hyper litigious society, some folks weren’t satiated and decided to file a class action lawsuit regardless.
And today, that class action suit has been settled.
As part of the settlement, iPhone 4 owners who experienced reception issues and weren’t able to return the phone without incurring a financial burden will be able to file some paperwork and receive $15.
