During yesterday's WWDC Keynote, Phil Schiller not only announced upgrades to Apple's line of notebooks, he also unveiled a next-gen MacBook Pro complete with a Retina Display, a super thin form factor (try 0.71 inches on for size) and a 15.4-inch display.
During yesterday’s WWDC Keynote, Phil Schiller not only announced upgrades to Apple’s line of notebooks, he also unveiled a next-gen MacBook Pro complete with a Retina Display, a super thin form factor (try 0.71 inches on for size) and a 15.4-inch display.
Touted as the most beautiful computer to ever come out of Apple, the flagship MacBook Pro has a resolution of 2,880 by 1,880 pixels, or 220 PPI – higher than any other laptop display on the planet according to Apple.As for some other internals, the new MacBook Pro comes with flash storage, two USB 3 ports and will run on Intel’s brand new Ivy Bridge quad core i7 processor.
The notebook can also be outfitted with 16GB of RAM, and as is typically the case, Apple has kept battery life the same with 7 hours of battery life under normal usage conditions and 30 days of standby time. The one thing you won’t find in this flagship notebook, however, is an optical drive. You gotta make some trade-offs to achieve that level of thinness after alll. Also included is a new and smaller MagSafe charging port and a 720p HD camera on the front. Schiller also boasted that the laptop features the best speakers Apple has ever included in a notebook. Interestingly enough, Apple also explained that the new machine uses an asymmetrical blade system to cool things down while keeping noise to a minimum.
And all these goodies won’t come cheap. The price for the new 15.4-inch Retina Display enabled MacBook Pro is $2,199. The base model has a 2.3 Ghz quad-core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM.
The MacBook Air also got some upgrade treatment in the form of Ivy Bridge processors and 720p front facing cameras for both the 11 and 13-inch models.The base model 11-inch MacBook Air sells for $999 while the 13-inch sells for $1,199.
And don’t fret if you’re pining for a MacBook Pro with an optical drive and/or you don’t care about a Retina Display. Apple’s current fleet of MacBook Pros were also updated with Ivy Bridge processors and updated graphics cards from Nvidia. The 17-inch MacBook Pro, however, has been discontinued but the 13 and 15 inch MacBook Pros can be picked up for $1,199 and $1,799 respectively.
