Proving once again that virtually everything is about the money
This Computerworld story on our site today is at least the third I’ve read recently about the demise of company-issued, company-financed mobile phone.
In its place: BYOD … and, it would seem increasingly, PYOB: as in, pay your own bill.
IT executives have all kinds of complex and nuanced reactions to these policy developments.
But how an employee looks at the trend, it seems to me, is largely a function of the answer to a single question: Does the money matter to them?
If not, well, what’s not to like about using your phone of choice?
If the money matters, though, BYOD + PYOB amounts to nothing but a cut in pay.
