The recently released Samsung Galaxy S III is doing quite well in the marketplace, having sold more than 10 million units in less than two months
Though I love the iPhone, it’s getting increasingly hard to argue that some Android handsets have caught up to Apple. The most obvious example is Samsung, whose line of Galaxy S smartphones keep getting slicker with each successive release.
The most recent Samsung smartphone entrant is the Galaxy S III and so far sales for the device have been remarkably impressive.
Speaking to a Korean news agency, Samsung president of information technology Shin Jong-kyun said that sales of the Galaxy S III surpassed the 10 million mark in less than two months.
Shin Jong-kyun, the president of Samsung’s information technology and mobile communication division, told reporters that the phone has become a 10-million seller after it was first unveiled on May 29 in London. He, however, did not give exact numbers.
This translates into about 190,000 Galaxy S3s being sold every day, and easily ahead of its very popular predecessor — the Galaxy S2 — that reported sales hitting 10 million five months after it reached consumers.
Of course, this has to aggravate Apple to no end. The company is currently embroiled in litigation with Samsung across the globe as it continues its efforts to get allegedly infringing Samsung products off the shelves. Remember that Apple recently attained a preliminary injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus S here in the U.S. – and it’s worth pointing out that Apple attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to get the Galaxy S III to fall under the same injunction.
