Young computer nerd actor tsks tsks others for using open source, getting virus

A new episode of Disney’s Shake It Up tween show includes a segment in which a stereotypical nerd character castigates two fellow cast members for the “rookie mistake” of using open source code that let in a computer virus.

Naturally, open source supporters have beaten up Disney over the anti-open source “propaganda.”

As one Twitter user put it:

Angus Chan @gusmaru

#Disney embeds #FUD against Open Source in children sitcom. It should focus on #Entertainment, not #politics!

However, note that not all Disney is spreading open source worries. In fact, Walt Disney Animation Studios launched an open source version of some of its technology at the SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles.
