Ahead of the iPhone 5 unveiling comes word that Apple is planning its biggest iPod Touch upgrade "ever."
In conjunction with the iPhone 5 unveiling slated for later today, it’s largely believed that Apple will announce a revamped lineup of iPods as well.
To that end, MacRumors relays a new research note from the typically reliable Ming-Chi Kuo who drops a ton of information about a rumored upgrade to the iPod Touch.
Touting the 2012 iPod Touch upgrade the “biggest ever,” Kuo writes that Apple’s popular media player will be following in the footsteps of the iPhone 5 to the extent that it will sport a larger 4-inch screen.
– New colors: Beyond the traditional black model and the white model added last year, Kuo expects new colors for the iPod touch in order to attract younger customers. Speculation based on part numbers has already suggested that new colors could be in the mix. – 4-inch display and thinner body: Apple is expected to adopt the same 4-inch display panel with in-cell touch technology that is making its way into the iPhone 5, enabling Apple to shave the iPod touch’s thickness down to 6.0-6.5 mm and weight down to under 100 grams.
What’s more, the new iPod Touch will reportedly come in a variety of colors and will, for the first time, come with GPS functionality as well. Other enhancements include a higher quality 5-megapixel camera, a FaceTime HD camera on the front of the device, and the inclusion of Apple’s A5 SoC.
