No good reason to withhold the driver for discontinued tablets.
The only thing that does not work is the Touchpad camera. The reason I understand it doesn’t work is because it requires a proprietary driver from Qualcomm, which HP is not allowed release. If that is the case, it is high time Qualcomm does the right thing and releases the driver.
Yes, the devs are trying to recreate the drivers, but obviously this is slow, tedious and difficult. With no support coming from HP and no one selling it, Qualcomm could at least salvage some good will here. I for one would be very grateful to them for doing the right thing and making the drivers accessible.
While I don’t think having the camera running on my pad is critical, there really is no good reason for Qualcomm to be holding back here. If you absolutely need to use the camera, you can always boot your TP into WebOS and use the camera there.
With the TP discontinued though and the rest of WebOS, as well as Android, open sourced, what is Qualcomm gaining from not releasing these drivers? The good will they would earn from the community by donating these drivers far outweighs any profit to be gained at this point.
So does anyone know why they wouldn’t? If you don’t have a good reason, would you mind re-tweeting, posting and getting the word out? Let’s get Qualcomm’s attention and get them to release the drivers. This has gone on long enough.
They are our devices and we should be able to use the camera running Android if we want to. The time for commercial profit off this by Qualcomm has past. They should make the camera drivers available. If it is a question of money, let the community know and maybe we can all chip in.
