Though failure of sporting goods retailer does cost foundation its investment
endif; ?>
Generally speaking, the financial collapse of U.K. sporting goods retailer JJB Sports would scarcely warrant a mention on this side of the pond, never mind in the tech press. However, as is being noted in every account of the failure, among those losing their investments in JJB is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
How much?
According to documents available on the Gates Foundation’s Web site, it would appear that the organization invested about $9 million in JJB in 2007.
And according to this fact sheet on the site, the foundation has an endowment of $35.6 billion.
Rather than trust my math, let’s just call the loss a rounding error.
