Adele’s James Bond theme song “Skyfall” climbs up iTunes quickly

Despite a long string of famous artists churning out theme songs for a slew of James Bond movies, the last artist with a bonafide hit theme song for the iconic movie series was Madonna in 1995 with her song “Die Another Day.”

But lo and behold, Adele’s song “Skyfall” – complete with a 77 piece orchestra – appears poised to change that. The song will serve as the theme for the upcoming Bond film starring Daniel Craig and is set to hit theatres on November 9th. Notably, Adele put the song together with Paul Epworth, the same producer who produced her wildly popular single “Rolling in the Deep.”

This Thursday night, the official video for the song was made available.

So why is this relevant to anything aside from music? Well it turns out that a leaked version of the song found its way online earlier this week, only to be followed by a radio station playing the full song on Thursday before it was supposed to. So if the James Bond franchise can’t even keep their theme songs under wraps, then does Apple have any chance of keeping its upcoming product leaks to a minimum?

Okay, I admit, that analogy is rather preposterous but the song, after having only been out for a few hours, is already number 2 on the iTunes charts and may be on track to set some iTunes records in the process. Look for it to hit the number one spot on iTunes rather quickly.

So what’s the broad moral of the story? Well perhaps its that leaks aren’t that much of an issue. We knew basically everything about the iPhone 5 before it was unveiled and people are still snatching them up as quickly as Apple can make them. Adele’s song was leaked before becoming available and folks are downloading it at as fast as they can. At the end of the day, quality is what truly matters.
