Apple last week slightly adjusted the presentation of its iOS App Store, displaying age ratings for apps much more prominently.

As you can see below, a ratings box for each app is now located right under the title, allowing users to make more informed purchase decisions. Previously, the age rating for an app was located in an app’s information section, requiring users to scroll far down in order to see it.

In a similar move, Apple recently tweaked its iOS App Store layout by prominently featuring an “Offers In-App Purchases” warning when appropriate. That particular update came in the wake of a class-action lawsuit filed by parents who alleged that Apple’s implementation of in-app purchases enabled children to quickly spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in a blink of an eye. Of course, the devil’s advocate argument is that parents, and not Apple, should be responsible for how their kids use applications. Besides, Apple does offer settings to turn off in-app purchases completely.

All in all, Apple’s moves all work to make the app purchase experience more transparent.
