A new rumor suggests that the iPhone 5S may bring a huge bump in camera quality.
As shares of Apple continue to plummet, a rumor earlier this week shed some light on what the camera in the upcoming iPhone 5S may look like. According to the Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn, Apple’s next-gen camera may come equipped with a rather respectable 12-megapixel camera along with the capability of taking higher-quality photos in low-light settings.
According to Tinhte, which has in the past gotten its hands on Apple products before they ship, word of the enhanced camera came via a source at Wonderful Saigon Electrics, a firm which helps provide camera modules for the iPhone.
As with any Apple rumor, it’s hard to gauge the veracity of these reports. That said, it’s no secret that Apple has devoted considerable engineering resources to the iPhone’s camera in the past, and indeed, the company has historically taken steps to drastically improve the iPhone’s camera quality with each successive iPhone release.
By way of comparison, the current iPhone 5 boasts an 8-megapixel camera.
In any event, a Bloomberg report from earlier this week relayed that Foxconn was poised to go on a hiring spree ahead of its plans to begin production on Apple’s upcoming smartphone.
