Hardware specs for the upcoming iPhone 5S may have been leaked.
This is a rumor, folks, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, the following is a rather big, and more importantly, believable rumor, so take heed if you can’t wait to find out what type of goodies Apple may have in store for us when it finally unveils the iPhone 5S.
While initial impressions of iOS 7 may leave much to be desired, the hardware on the upcoming iPhone 5S may more than make up for it. Indeed, if the following rumors regarding the iPhone 5S are, in fact, true, it stands to reason that Apple’s next-gen iPhone will once again have the Apple faithful lining up around the block.
Citing sources from the Chinese supply chain, ExtremeTech relays what very well may be the hardware specs of the iPhone 5S. Specifically, the iPhone 5S will sport a quad-core PowerVR SGX544MP4 GPU, a 4-inch IGZO display, and 2GB of RAM. The IGZO display is especially interesting given that it would consume less power and would, perhaps, pave the way for rather impressive battery life.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Intriguingly, the iPhone 5S will reportedly come with NFC functionality (which has long been rumored) and a fingerprint authorization sensor.Just how exciting this feature will ultimately be certainly depends on how Apple chooses to implement it. If the only use case for it will be to unlock a phone, well, that leaves much to be desired. But given the accompanying rumor of NFC functionality, it’s entirely reasonable to expect that the iPhone 5S will enable consumers to purchase goods via the iPhone itself.
Also of note is that the iPhone 5S will reportedly sport a 12-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, another rumor that has been making its way through the rumor mill for a few months.
It’s widely believed that the iPhone 5S will launch sometime in September.
