It’s been a while since we’ve seen a major product announcement from Apple, but with August in full swing, we won’t have to wait much longer. By all accounts, Apple will be releasing two new iPhone models this September – the iPhone 5S and a lower cost iPhone.
Now you may be wondering why Apple needs a low cost iPhone at all. After all, doesn’t Apple have the iPhone 4? Well, yes and no. While the iPhone 4 continues to sell very well, Apple’s margins on the three year old device aren’t as high as they are for its other products. To that end, a lower cost iPhone built with cheaper, yet still quality parts is a win-win for Apple. It can boost its margins while simultaneously offering a device for more price conscious consumers.
So just what will the low cost iPhone look like? Well, we’ve seen some leaked photos before and recently leaked photos seem to confirm the general design of the device.

Recall that the lower cost iPhone will purportedly be called the iPhone 5C, not necessarily because it’s cheaper but rather because it will come in a slew of fanciful colors.
Interestingly enough, iPhonearena writes that the device may cost carriers $490, thereby making it more expensive than the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5C is rumored to sport an 8 megapixel camera and the same 4 inch display as the iPhone 5.
