Leading in commits to the OpenStack code is a bragging point
OpenStack’s latest code has been released, which means one company gets the coveted title of being the top code contributor to the project.
That goes, once again, to Red Hat.

Since joining OpenStack in April 2012, the open source company made famous for supporting Linux has gone full-bore with OpenStack. The company has made 21% of the commits to the Havana release. In the previous release, named Grizzly, Red Hat was the leading company to commit to the project. In the Folsom release before that, it led with 24% of the commits.
HP, which has gone all in on the platform as well by using OpenStack as the base for not just its public, but private cloud as well, was second in code contributions in the Havana release, writing 16% of the new code.
Rounding out the top five are IBM, Rackspace – one of the original founders of the project – and consultancy Mirantis. The stats can be viewed at Stackalytics.com.
Contributing the most code to the project has some benefits. Red Hat can tell customers that it is the company, more so than any other, that is shaping the direction of the project, which is not an insignificant marketing statement.
