Hashing out the right #hashtag for Amazon’s cloud show

Opinion

Is it #reinvent, or #awsreinvent?

Amazon’s big cloud show hasn’t even started yet, and there’s already controversy in the Twittersphere.

Well, sort of.

Throughout the morning buzz has been growing regarding the big cloud show happening this week, AWS re:Invent, the second-ever customer conference for Amazon Web Services. Some are even calling it the “Cloud Superbowl.”

But, what’s the official hashtag of the event? Many have been using #reinvent but Amazon’s own Twitter account was using #awsreinvent. So which is it?

It may sound mundane, but it could actually be a big deal. Twitter enthusiasts (and there are a lot of them in cloud circles) use hastags to follow and participate in conversations. Users can create special searches to display all the tweets of a certain hashtag, which makes it easy to track the conversation about a particular topic. So, which is the one to use at Amazon’s cloud show: #reinvent, or #awsreinvent?

Thankfully, AWS PR reps resolved the issue before too much confusion broke out.

@BButlerNWW @tcrawford @juan_domenech sorry for the confusion. we changed it to #reinvent to make it shorter and easier.
