He's joining Battery Ventures
Netflix is a poster-child cloud computing user, and perhaps the poster child of Netflix’s cloud is Adrain Cokcroft(pictured). Today, Cockcroft announced on his blog that he has accepted a new position at venture capitalist firm Battery Ventures.
Cockcraft is a public face of Netflix’s cloud -he’s a frequent and well-respected speaker at industry trade shows and in the media. He recently was features during the Amazon Web Services second day keynote to award companies prizes for using the open source tools he has helped create at Netflix.

Accoridng to his LinkedIn profile, Cockcroft joined Netflix in May 2007 as director of web engineering and was later promoted to cloud architect. Before Netflix, he worked at a distinguished engineer at both eBay and Sun Microsystems.
In his blog, Cockcroft wrote:
“Over the last few years I’ve given a lot of talks, and the industry reaction to Netflix’s all-in public cloud strategy has evolved from “It won’t work” through “It only works for unicorns like Netflix”to “How do we get there?” My answer to that question is the Netflix Open Source Software (NetflixOSS) platform, consisting of around forty distinct projects shared at netflix.github.com that provides an on-ramp for applications to move to a cloud native architecture…. In my new role at Battery Ventures I will be continuing my conversations with large enterprise companies planning a move to cloud native, and SaaS vendors who are re-architecting for scale, to understand the gaps and demands of this market.”
Officially, Cockcroft will serve as a “technology fellow,” a first-of-its-kind position for the well-known Silicon Valley VC firm. “In his new role, Cockcroft will advise Battery and its portfolio of investments on various technology trends and issues; assist with deal sourcing and due diligence; and speak at technology-industry conferences and events around the globe,” according to a press release announcing Cockcroft’s appointment.
