TIA Asks Congress to Avoid Mandates on Wireless 911 Location Issues
ARLINGTON, VA (January 16, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today urged Congress to avoid mandates regarding wireless 911 location issues.
Quick! Someone yell “stop the presses,” provided there any presses left to stop. A trade association representing the telecommunications industry would like Congress to know that, all things being equal, the telecommunications industry would prefer that Congress leave it the hell alone, thank-you very much.
Having been a journalist since the Ford Administration, I am here to tell you that this is not news. If you have doubts, take a spin through the TIA’s press release archive and see if you can find an example of that organization urging Congress to impose mandates on the telecommunications industry.
On the other hand, the TIA is certainly not above urging Congress to impose mandates on Congress, with a recent example being the organization’s call for the Senate and House to immediately exempt the telecommunications industry from feeling the effects of last year’s ridiculous government shutdown.
Mandates on telecom? Not so much.
