A new report claims that Apple later this year will release two new iPhone models sporting 4.7 and 5.5-inch displays. What's more, the report claims that these new iPhones will feature displays comprised of sapphire, the second most scratch resistant substance on the planet.
To date, one of the clear advantages some Android devices have had over the iPhone has been their bigger display sizes. Apple, as is typically the case, has been slow to drastically change its iPhone design. Indeed, it wasn’t until Apple released the iPhone 5 last year that they decided to increase the device’s display size.
Recently, Tim Cook said that Apple isn’t opposed to the ideas of larger displays, but rather that the company wants to ensure that an iPhone with a larger display wouldn’t affect the overall user experience.
All that said, a new report from the South China Morning post claims that Apple later this year will release two new iPhone models sporting 4.7 and 5.5-inch displays. What’s more, the report claims that these new iPhones will feature displays comprised of sapphire, the second most scratch resistant substance on the planet, behin diamonds. Recall that Apple not too long ago partnered up with GT Advanced to produce sapphire in enormous quantities. Of course, at this time it remains unclear if this sapphire glass is being positioned for use in Apple’s rumored iWatch or for new iPhone models.
Notably, the report further claims that these new iPhone models will have a display density of 441 pixels per inch, which if true, would represent a noticeable step up from the 326 ppi found in current iPhone displays.
Speaking of iPhone rumors, The Korea Herald this week reported that Apple’s next-gen iPhone models will be bezel-free. There has also been a rumor floating around suggesting that the next-gen iPhone camera will feature a 10 megapixel rear sensor.
