First phones reportedly available at end of October, early November
Microsoft will formally launch its Windows Phone 7 mobile OS on October 11, according to a British mobile news Website, citing “multiple [but anonymous] sources familiar with the matter.” The writer, Stuart Miles, said of his sources that “all are senior figures within the industry that [sic] we know and trust.”
The event, to be held in New York City, will include the unveiling of Windows Phone 7 handsets from previously confirmed partners Asus, Dell, HTC, LG, and Samsung, according to the Pocket-lint.com post, Photos and videos purporting to be of the new LG E900 smartphone with Windows Phone 7 appeared on a Polish mobile site (scroll down for the English version) in August, with specifications for a 1.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a 3.7-inch capacitive TFT display.
The October 11 date, a Monday, would fit with the time frame Microsoft has announced for the activation of its Windows Phone Marketplace, its online apps catalog, which is tightly integrated with the operating system. Microsoft just announced that the final code version for the 1.0 version of Windows Phone 7 has been locked down. Next week, Microsoft will release the final production version of its Windows Phone 7 developer tools.
Officially, Microsoft from the first public showing of Windows Phone 7, has said only that phones with the radically redesigned mobile OS would be available in time for the 2010 holidays.
Last weekend, the company unveiled its first video “trailer” for Windows Phone 7, apparently mimicking a scene from the movie “Lawrence of Arabia,” featuring the tag line “The revolution is coming.”
