Android still trails iPhone store's 250,000 apps

The Android Market has apparently just surpassed the 100,000 applications mark.

The milestone was announced by the @AndroidDev Twitter account this morning, the official Twitter feed for Android developers, which reported simply “One hundred thousand apps in Android Market.”

Android is still well behind Apple’s iPhone App Store, which boasts 250,000 apps. But Apple’s iPhone had a big head start on Android, while Google’s smartphone platform is rapidly increasing its market share. Android is the most popular mobile OS among consumers who bought a smartphone in the past six months, according to Nielsen. Android has 19% total market share, compared to 31% for BlackBerry and 28% for the iPhone.
