Cultural Advisor assesses the way we communicate and work in an effort to make us work better together
Colleague Steve Lawson of the IDG News Service has scooped the development of a Cisco application designed to assess how people work and communicate, with the apparent intention of helping them work better together.
Cisco has applied for a trademark on the “Cisco Cultural Advisor” application for mobile phones, describing it in trademark documents as an application for “creating, analyzing and comparing profiles of users’ communication and work styles, and for improving effectiveness of business interactions,” Lawson reports. Cisco filed the application on Oct. 19.
Cisco confirmed Cultural Advisor is under development but did not provide Lawson with any additional details on it.
Cultural Advisor is the latest Cisco application for monitoring and reporting on how people use some of the latest technology for collaborating, such as Web 2.0 applications, social media, wikis, blogs, instant messaging, etc. Earlier this month, Cisco unveiled SocialMiner, software that allows companies to mine through social media networks looking for discussions on those companies and their products.
SocialMiner is intended to augment customer contact and service capabilities by proactively injecting customer service agents into public discussions on companies and brands in social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and blogs.
Cisco also unveiled Quad earlier this year. Quad is a social-networking hub for enterprises that combines aspects of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube with real-time forms of communication to make colleagues throughout an organization readily accessible to each other. A click on a colleague’s profile connects that coworker to a phone call, videoconference, or instant-messaging or document-sharing session.
