Welcome to week one of the new “Masters of Converged Solutions” web site and blog, formerly known as “Masters of Unified Communications.”
Why the change? While there’s much to keep writing about with respect to unified communications applications and services, we’re finding that the bulk of our recent client inquiries, and commensurate spending initiatives, are focused in the areas of wireless and mobility. While IT budgets continue to operate under tight constraints, more than 40% of companies are increasing their spend on wireless and mobility platforms and services.
Internally at Nemertes, we recently renamed our WAN/LAN wireless track to “Advanced Communications Services and Mobility,” highlighting the growing reality that enterprise IT leaders aren’t so much as concerned with simply interconnecting sites as they are in delivering a seamless communications fabric that converges wireless and wireline to enable seamless connectivity for any employee from any location, via any device.
As a result, this blog is undergoing a shift in focus. While I’ll still cover topics in the UC space, I’ll try to do so with an eye as to how products, services, and technologies, along with end-user demands, are broadening across wired and wireless users. In addition, we’ll also cover topics related to fixed-mobile convergence, integration between wireless services and SIP trunking, and the emergence of 4G services. We’ll also look at the underlying network services necessary to deliver rich media application performance in a converged environment, including, application delivery optimization, resiliency, and security. Finally we’ll delve into emerging technologies such as IPv6 and the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
