New trade-in program
That is what Quest Software would like to see you do. They are helping influence the decision by offering a Trade-In Program. Current VMware View users can trade in up to 250 VMware View licenses for Quest vWorkspace at no charge. The theory behind the move is that VMware View users are stalled at POC (proof of concept) and Quest believes they can help customers break out. There is no doubt that we see a lot of stalled POCs and if Quest can strike at the opportunity to get a seat at the table, why not? Quest is typically ranked third in the desktop virtualization market behind Citrix and VMware and, if this moves proves successful, it will open the eyes of these leading market players. The desktop virtualization market is just starting to rev up and I’d expect to see lots more of this jockeying for position over the coming year. An interesting note: I was up on stage a few months back with representative from a local state government agency that had a significant desktop virtualization deployment rolled out. He stated that they are considering switching to Quest vWorkspace for the next phase of deployment. Why? Price!
