Seeks seasoned marketing help to drive partner programs
Juniper is poaching two familiar territories as it stocks up on marketing executives: Cisco and Microsoft. These moves are key for Juniper as it looks to emulate the channel success of Cisco and Microsoft, and build out its stable of third party software developers.
Juniper is focusing on aggressively expanding its roster of software development partners to propogate its three JUNOS development platforms and broaden its reach into key growth markets, such as cloud computing and the mobile Internet.
From Cisco, Juniper has snagged Luanne Tierney, Cisco’s vice president of Global Partner Marketing, as its own new VP of Global Partner Marketing. Tierney will be in charge of developing the Juniper Partner Program. She’ll bring a wealth of knowhow from Cisco, where Tierney was responsible for heading up marketing initiatives involving 13,000 distributors, resellers and strategic partners.
Prior to Cisco, Tierney held channel marketing positions at 3Com, Hewlett Packard, Apple Computer and First Deposit Corp. She is a 20 year industry veteran and will report to Lauren Flaherty, Juniper executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
Tierney’s appointment comes the same week that Juniper snatched away two Microsoft marketing executives. Microsoft is fertile ground for Juniper executives ever since CEO Kevin Johnson left Microsoft to join Juniper in 2008.
Juniper named Brad Brooks, former corporate vice president for Windows Consumer Marketing and Product Management at Microsoft, as vice president of worldwide enterprise marketing and solutions. Brooks will also report to Flaherty, and he’ll be responsible for developing and executing overall marketing strategies for the Juniper’s enterprise business, including defining go-to-market plans for vertical and horizontal markets.
Brooks will spearhead Juniper’s global enterprise marketing programs, including development of an integrated marketing plan for the field, channels and customers.
At Microsoft, Brooks led the consumer business for the Windows client, including the launch of Windows 7. Prior to Microsoft, Brooks held product management, business development, marketing and sales roles at Lucent Technologies and AT&T. He also worked as an intelligence analyst for the U.S. government early in his career.
Also jumping to Juniper from Microsoft is Emilio Umeoka, who had been Microsoft’s president of Asia Pacific. At Juniper, Umeoka will be senior vice president, worldwide partners, responsible for global channel strategy and partner initiatives.
Umeoka reports to John Morris, executive vice president, field operations for Juniper.
