Some insights from a recent event

I recently spoke at an IT roadmap event and walked away with some interesting observations:

  • CIOs are building cloud computing into their plans as they model skill sets based on how the current talent will impact new recruitment, training, outsourcing, and retention of staff.
  • If you move to the cloud, know what it may take to move off the cloud or to a different cloud. One organization I spoke with on stage told the audience it would take six months to move a relatively minimal deployment.
  • Economics and lack of skills were the top two drivers I heard consistently at the event.
  • One CIO said he does not plan to blaze the trail to the cloud, but absolutely plans to follow the road once it is paved.

The presentations from the event are shared at the if you follow the link to the IT Roadmap event.
