A little red wine goes a long way for superconductors, researchers find
Here’s an interesting little piece from the io9 website titled “Drunk scientists pour wine on superconductors and make an incredible discovery.”
The gist: Researchers at the National Institute for Materials Science in Japan were experimenting with superconductors, started to party a bit, and then experimented some more by pouring various types of booze on the superconductors, only to find the booze actually lessened the resistance to the flow of electricity than the other liquids they’d been testing.
Now if only you could pour a little cabernet on your Ethernet switches, servers and routers to boost their speeds to 10Gbps or whatever you want to upgrade to next.
At any rate, a little drinking and experimenting on superconductors has seemed to pay off. Let’s just hope the scientists didn’t start texting about their success. Texting and drinking is never a good combination, as many a celebrity has taught us.
