As we New Englanders await the next snow storm ...
Here is an actual e-mail exchange from this morning between two of my colleagues who shall remain anonymous for reasons that will be obvious:
Co-worker 1, from home: My wife sometimes asks me what I’d do without her. The answer: Lock myself out of the house … am endeavoring to get in and get my keys. I happen to have my laptop, though the battery won’t last.
Co-worker 2: I have three keys outside … I need three because the kids keep using them and forgetting to put them back out.
Co-worker 1: And you’re probably smart enough to put them in places where they aren’t under 2 feet of snow.
Co-worker 2: Uuuuhhhh …. Yes, in fact. But just blind luck. Never even thought of that.
Neither had I. Now we all will.
And I believe that finding oneself outside of one’s house without keys but with a computer will need to become a corollary of some sort to The Laptop Drive of Shame.
