Apple designer Jony Ive is reportedly contemplating a move back to England so that his two twin sons can receive a British education. Apple however isn't keen on Ive heading across the Atlantic and Apple's board and Ive have reportedly "been at loggerheads" over Ive's desire to move.
For as much as Steve Jobs has done to rescue Apple from the brink of bankruptcy, much of Apple’ss success also lies with the talented team of executives, engineers, and designers Jobs brought together after returning to Apple in 1997.contemplating a move back to England so that his two twin sons can receive a British education. Apple however isn’t keen on Ive heading across the Atlantic and Apple’s board and Ive have reportedly “been at loggerheads” over Ive’s desire to move. While Ive would presumably like to commute from the UK to Cupertino, Apple has candidly stated that Ive will not be able to retain his position if he indeed moves back home.
That said, one of the more widely known Apple employees is Jonathan Ive, Apple’s Senior VP of Industrial Design. Upon returning to Apple, Jobs spotted the design prowess of Ive who, at the time, was reportedly languishing away in Apple’s research labs with prototypes that remained just that.
Sharing a similar taste for simple yet functional design, Ive and Jobs became close friends and what followed was a litany of innovative, revolutionary, and well designed products. First up was the Bondi Blue iMac which was soon followed by other innovative iMac designs, a number of MacBooks, a slew of iPods, the iPhone, and most recently the iPad.
But now comes word via the Times of London that Ive is
Citing an anonymous friend of Ive’s, the Times relays:
“Unfortunately he is just too valuable to Apple and they told him in no uncertain terms that if he headed back to England he would not be able to sustain his position with them … It’s a shame. We hardly ever see anyone at the house.”
Not surprisingly, an Apple spokesman contacted by the publication had a “no comment” while stating that Ive’s intention to move back to England was nothing more than speculation.
