IBM’s Sam Palmisano dunks over Lebron James

From the 'One-on-ones You'll Never See Department'

Sam Palmisano is a former high school offensive lineman who has the hops of a 59-year-old white guy, yet the IBM CEO posterized Lebron James yesterday with the revelation that he earned $31.7 million in total compensation last year, up 30 percent over 2009.

James made a relatively modest $27.5 million: $14.5 million in salary and another $13 million from Nike. (There’s undoubtedly more in Lebron’s wallet, but the same holds for Palmisano and we don’t want to get too caught up in real numbers when making such a whimsical comparison.)

At first I was tempted to whistle Palmisano for a foul – I mean $31.7 million? – c’mon, man, don’t breathe all the air.

But then I read that IBM had a slam-dunk of a year financially.

All James has done is crush Cleveland’s soul and drag his new Heat teammates into a state of rapidly declining mediocrity.
