Grows revenue 60% in 2010, gains 7 points of share
Cisco drove revenue growth in SAN switching in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to market research firm Infonetics. Cisco posted a 60% increase in SAN switch revenue in 2010, the firm found.
The overall SAN market rebounded in 2010 after experiencing a drop in 2009.
Brocade remains the market leader in the overall SAN space, but it lost 6 points of market share while Cisco gained 7, Infonetics found. Cisco has a “strong lead” in the FibreChannel over Ethernet (FCoE) switch market, according to the firm.
Worldwide FCoE SAN switch revenue was up more than 200% in 2010, but from a small base.
Even so, the combined SAN switch and adapter market grew 15% in 2010, to $2.76 billion worldwide. Infonetics forecasts the worldwide SAN equipment market to grow to $8.4 billion in 2015, a CAGR of 25%.
For the fourth quarter, worldwide SAN switch and adapter revenue is up 10% over Q3, to $749 million. In adapters, leaders QLogic and Emulex showed 10% and 12% revenue increases, respectively, in 2010.
Demand for SAN equipment in 2010 was driven by data center growth, consolidation and simplification, and the need to store, move and manage increasing amounts of video and data content, largely generated by consumers, Infonetics found.
