IE developers continue tradition begun in 2006
A Firefox release isn’t a Firefox release until the cake arrives.
Explains Fred Wenzel, a software engineer at Mozilla, on his blog fredericiana:. “It has been a tradition ever since Firefox 2: Whenever we ship a major Firefox release, the Microsoft Internet Explorer team sends us a congratulatory cake.”
The first cake arrived with Firefox 2 in October 2006.
And there was one for Firefox 3 in June 2008.
“This is a fine gesture,” Wenzel continues on his blog. “Hat tip to our fellow browser makers in Redmond. Remember: Competition is good for business.”
Of course, not everyone who has left a comment on that post shares Wenzel’s sense of camaraderie. Haters gonna hate.
