Photos suggest subtle camera redesign on the iPhone 5.

With the iPhone 5 not scheduled for release until later this Fall, iPhone rumors haven’t exactly been pouring in like they have in past years. But this weekend was an exception.

An iPhone 5 case was spotted on Alibaba sporting two separate modules for the camera and the flash. On the current iPhone 4, the camera flash is located alongside the actual camera. But as you can tell from the photo above, the flash has apparently been moved to the other side of the phone. If this is indeed the iPhone 5 design, this should result in better picture quality such as reduced redeye.

Alibaba’s website notes:

You’ll also note that the mocked up photo above also shows an edge to edge screen, which echoes earlier reports that the next-gen iPhone will sport a larger screen size to more aggressively compete with Android devices.

When the photo above first began circulating this weekend, it was hard to gauge how seriously to take them. While hardware designs are routinely leaked out to case manufacturers, misleading case designs have been known to pop up from time to time.

But lo and behold, photos depicting the front and rear camera modules of the next-gen iPhone were subsequently leaked a few hours later by Apple.pro, a site with an exemplary track record with respect to Apple rumors.

As you can see below, the iPhone 4 rear camera has the camera flash attached to the right. The camera on the iPhone 5, however, has no camera flash attached, seemingly corroborating the case design from above suggesting a separation between the camera and the flash. There have been reports that the next-gen iPhone will come with an 8 megapixel camera, and now it seems that a subtle camera redesign will also be included.
