CCNP exam completely altered
endif; ?>Cisco today announced that it is revamping its CCNP exam process and also launching a new certification for service providers. Cisco Subnet blogger Wendell Odom has posted more details about the new CCNP exam in his blog. He writes, “Cisco starts by removing roughly half the topic breadth from the old CCNP: most every topic from ONT and ISCW is gone. Cisco then adds back a Troubleshooting exam that focuses on routing and switching with a few other topics. Today I’ll begin an examination of this revised cert, with lots of links, some impressions, and a promise to more time in the coming weeks drilling down on the new exams.”
The CCNP is Cisco’s second most-popular certification, after the CCNA. According to book publisher Cisco Press, “The previous version of the CCNP required four exams: BSCI, BCMSN, ONT and ISCW. The revised certification now requires three 120-minute exams: ROUTE #642-902 Implementing Cisco IP Routing, SWITCH #642-813—Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks, TSHOOT #642-832——Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP.”
While change is constant and change can also be good, in this case, it can also be a hardship for anyone far along in studying for the CCNP. One idea might be to use a new study-guide package for mid- to late-stage exam preparation, called “Cert Kits” sold by Cisco Press. The Cert Kits combine video, print and electronic quick reference sheets, and online flash cards. Several Cert kits are available, now, with more to come in February.
Likewise, Odom, a Cisco Press author, will also be doing his best to help you prepare for popular Cisco certifications though his Cisco Cert Zone blog and books. Feel free to drop him a comment or a question about the new CCNP exams at his blog.
In more Cisco certification news, Cisco also launched a new cert the Cisco Service Provider Operations track. It validates that network professionals can design and troubleshoot the kind of complex IP networks being run by global service providers. It is geared towards those working at a service provider or at a Cisco reseller.
But for those of you most worried about passing that upcoming CCNP exam, here are the direct links to the new Cert Kits available now from Cisco Press.
We at Cisco Subnet wish you the best of luck on your test!
