A borderless network knows no endpoint bounds—all endpoints must be supported in a seamless manner. Along these lines Microsoft announced Office 2011 for the Apple Mac, scheduled to ship in 4Q-2010. Core to Microsoft’s new Mac strategy is seamless file conversion between Mac Office and Windows Office 2010, a more common user interface, and integration between Mac Office and Microsoft’s emerging Office Live Software as a Service (SaaS) offering.
This is an important move by Microsoft since 33 percent of companies are increasing their Mac deployments, but those in dual Mac-Windows shops highlight concerns related to file interoperability as well as the need to support two different Microsoft Office environments. To this point, IBM Lotus already offers one Notes/Symphony client for Mac, Windows or Linux.
