The Federal IT Security Professional (FITSP) first exams in September

The Federal IT Security Professional (FITSP) program will offer its first set of exams starting in September. The certification is broken into four individual IT security certification programs targeted at the Federal workforce based upon role: FITSP-Manager (FITSP-M) is designed for candidates who act in an oversight capacity with regard to IT security such as CISOs, ISMs, IAMs. FITSP-Designer (FITSP-D) is designed for candidates who are design and develop a system within an organization such as system designers and developers, ISSEs, and other engineers. FITSP-Operator (FITSP-O) is designed for candidates who implement and operate an information system within an organization such as system and application administrators, system owners, ISSOs, DBAs and other personnel who manage and maintain the system. FITSP-Auditor (FITSP-A) is designed for candidates who review and audit the IT system such as IT auditors that are found within the Inspector General community as well as public accounting companies. The functional roles are consistent to those identified in NIST SP 800-16 Draft 1 (from March 2009) – Information Security Training Requirements: A Role and Performance Based Model. FITSI is also pursuing ISO/IEC 17024 for the FITSP program. For a limited time, FITSI is accepting grandfathering applications for the FITSP certification program. You can use your experience in lieu of taking an exam to earn one of the four FITSP credentials. Additionally FITSI is offering the first 500 candidates free exam vouchers. One of the unique aspects of this program is that every FITSP certified member receives a custom challenge coin with the member’s FITSP certification number displayed on the coin.
