Wow, this is going to be an interesting weekend. With iPhone 4 reception issues still garnering a lot of mainstream coverage, Apple on Wednesday sent out invitations to select members of the press for a special press conference this Friday. On the agenda, according to The Loop's Jim Darlymple, will be the iPhone 4.

Wow, this is going to be an interesting weekend. With iPhone 4 reception issues still garnering a lot of mainstream coverage, Apple on Wednesday sent out invitations to select members of the press for a special press conference this Friday. On the agenda, according to The Loop’s Jim Darlymple, will be the iPhone 4.

Apple on Wednesday invited select press to a special press conference to be held this Friday in California. Apple would only say that the press conference would be regarding the iPhone 4. No other information was available when I spoke with them tonight.

Now what, oh what, could Apple have in store for us. Given the short notice and the fact that the event is being held on a Friday, you can be sure that it’s not good news as Apple likes to get positive news out into the news cycle earlier in the week. In the past, Apple has used Friday to release less than stellar news, and by all accounts, this is what seems to be taking shape here.

The question, though, is if Apple will merely address and acknowledge the issue or offer some sort of remedy, such as free cases for all iPhone 4 owners. While stranger things have happened, it seems wholly unrealistic to expect Apple to give out free iPhone 4 bumpers to the masses. At the same time, Apple’s image is currently taking a hit in the press, and a thoughtful response from them on the matter might help them ride out this current “controversy.”

The press conference will get underway this Friday at 10AM Pacific Standard Time. Stay tuned…
