Help drive a new open source solution for education market
At the SouthEast LinuxFest a few months ago, I met with Bob Ghosh, co-founder and CTO of OS4Ed. From the website: Open Solutions for Education (OS4Ed) is a provider of open solutions designed specifically to support the day to day management of schools and districts. OS4Ed solutions are based on open standards and developed on open source software providing schools and districts with true alternatives to costly proprietary commercial offerings.
The open product created by OS4Ed is OpenSIS, offering a comprehensive solution for small to large schools and districts including a cloud option to further reduce costs. Bob and I recently spoke about ideas to promote their solution to developers, solution providers, and customers and I would like to share my ideas with you as well as get feedback from my readers for other ideas that can assist OS4Ed. Together, I hope we can drive some new ideas and leads for this innovative educational solution leveraging the power of open source.
Here are some of my ideas:
Leverage existing customer base by creating a “Superstar” community where users of the technology can collectively share ideas and solutions to common problems.
Encourage and promote solution vendors who create products to run on OpenSIS by giving users a solution catalog of consultants, ISV providers, etc – similar to the SugarCRM model
Create case studies from existing customers to demonstrate the impact of choosing OpenSIS
Present OpenSIS with existing customers at Educational Software events as well as regional Open Source events
